I had just opened Buzzy’s Country Store yesterday morning when a bicyclist rolled in on his way back up the road from Point Lookout. When I asked him how many miles he was doing he replied “Only about 50.”
He grabbed a couple drinks and an ice cream as we continued to discuss biking matters. When I suggested an alternate route for him back up the road that would involve less hills he said that he actually wanted hills because he was prepping for an upcoming biking event in Pennsylvania. He then told me about a group named unPAved and their sponsorship of bike events. I found this on the web:
Looking back on our conversation, I have to smile at my recommending how he could avoid a couple of hills on Rt. 5 when obviously he was a serious off road biker who knew full well what he was doing. Hey, I was only trying to be helpful.
My visitor then adjourned to the porch where we continued to talk. (As you can tell, Buzzy’s wasn’t very busy at the time.) My bike friend then told me about a store in Philomont, Virginia that serves as a bicyclists’ destination place – the Philomont General Store. I found the following info on the Philomont General Store.
It is located just above Middleberg in western Loudon County.
The Philomont General Store has been around for some time and also has a Post Office. This is from their website.
As for being a biking destination, I saw this item on a bike group’s visit to the Store:
As for the Store’s current owners, I found this on the Store’s website (click here.)
My biking visitor then prepared to head back up the road and as he did so, he said “Thank you for being open.” In turn, I thanked him for dropping in.
Music-wise, I had the reggae channel on the other day when this tune caught my ear and I Shazamed it. Turns out that it has been around since 1981 and despite the upbeat reggae vibe, it is really about urban decay and some other bad things. Maybe don’t listen to the lyrics.
