Deja Vu All Over Again

Several years ago after a visitor to Buzzy’s inquired as to why we didn’t have sign marking where Scotland began, I contacted the powers-that-be and requested that our Scotland road sign be reinstalled. They did so and here is a photo I took back then of that sign located just up from Fresh Pond Neck Road.

Note – For a previous 2013 Buzzyblog post on this featuring Pat Adams on the motorcycle to the left in the photo (click here.)

Well, guess what? The other day, after sitting in traffic during the road resurfacing, I finally saw that the Scotland sign again is nowhere to be seen. I say “finally” because mind you I drive by there everyday and hadn’t really noticed that the sign was gone until my idling in traffic stint.

Little history for you. The boundary between Ridge and Scotland is Fresh Pond Neck Road. Properties on the north side of Fresh Pond have a Ridge address while the south side is Scotland.

Explanation I heard is that back in the day, a Post Office was located at the end of Airedele Road and it serviced the folks located around St. Jerome’s Creek to include residents on the north side of Fresh Pond Neck Road. In 1937, the Airedele Post Office was closed and consolidated with the Ridge Post Office.

And speaking of consolidating Post Offices, after the Scotland Post Office was consolidated a few years back with the Ridge PO, our then Scotland mail delivery person was in Buzzy’s. I asked her how it was going with the new arrangement. She sighed and said that it was more work for her because she now had to do both sides of Fresh Pond Neck Road. When I asked her why that was different from before she answered “Because the Ridge delivery guy did the north side and I only had to do the homes on the south side.” In other words, all these years, there were two Postal delivery folks going in and out of Fresh Pond Neck Road delivering mail. Go figure.

But back to the Scotland road sign, I re-called our County Transportation folks the other day and put in another request to have it re-installed. Let’s see if they followup on it, as they did several years ago when I last contacted them.

Here is Issac below doing “Deja Vu” with Dionne. He is back in the news because his estate is suing you-know-who for using Isacc’s “Hold On, I’m Coming.” I had always thought/assumed that it was written by Sam and Dave who had the big hit with it. Check out this funny backstory as to how it was written:
