Nathan Shuman Obit

On 4 March 1897 Nathan Shuman purchased property in Scotland, Maryland from Theodore L. West. He then ran a business and Post Office in his store a number of years before turning it over to his son Michael.

A search of property deeds shows Nathan passing the property to Michael in 1926. Regina Hammett’s listing of Scotland Post Masters shows Nathan Shuman becoming Post Master in 1905 and Michael in 1912.

Here is Nathan’s obit as published in the February 26 edition of 1932 St. Mary’s Beacon:

I particularly like that final sentence “Those who knew him thought well of him, as he lived the life of an honest, upright, respected citizen.” Nice words on a life well lived. And no, I am not doing any politics here. However, I am saying that this is something everyone should strive for and hopefully have written in their obits.

Note – In case you don’t know, Nathan’s store is currently Buzzy’s Country Store. Just as Nathans son took over the business from his father Nathan, I did likewise from my father Buzzy in 2007. The following is from a 7/17/2017 Buzzyblog post:

Song for today is Tropical Storm Debby related. Click here and see why that is.
