Sunday Morning – The Show

Hands down, no question, the best show on T-V is Sunday Morning. Some of you are probably saying “So you told us when it’s on, now tell us the name of the show.” Well I just did – it is named simply “Sunday Morning” which in itself is kinda noteworthy. It reminds me of how The Band was too cool and too good to even attempt a corny name and instead opted just to call themselves The Band. Too, I could make a case for how all of my family and close friends refer to Buzzy’s as “The Store.” (Ok, maybe I am stretching this name-thing a bit by comparing Buzzy’s to Sunday Morning and The Band, but you get my point right? Whenever something is referred to simply as “The _____” that means that it is pretty damn good.

The show “Sunday Morning” began in 1979 and thru those 45 years has had only 3 hosts – Charles Kuralt, Charles Osgood and Jane Pauley. The show features stories and profiles of people and things along with news, historical segments and specials. (It is on CBS at 9 a.m. if you want to check it out.)

To give you a quick (2:40 minute) look at the kind of stories Sunday Morning will feature, check out this story that first ran last Sunday morning and then appeared later on CBS Evening News.

Makes you feel good about a number of things right? For starters, it made me reconsider that just maybe our kids of today aren’t as self centered and clueless to others’ needs as they are sometimes depicted. There is also an immigrant-based statement to be made with Francis noting “Only in America, how America is a great country – God bless America” (2:35) says it all.

Speaking of The Band, here they are backing Bob in 1966 on this great tune of his. Unfortunately in this video you only get to see Rick and Robbie while Levon, Richard and Garth can be heard backing Bob. However, there is also a Richard duet on the tune with Bob out there that is worth checking out also. (For example, here is a live version of them playing it at the Largo Capital Center (click here.) You know you’re getting old when not only are the fellas who played the music are no longer around, but also the arena where they played it has been demolished!)

I know the live audio is not the best, so I’ve included the lyrics here for you:
