Soul Matters

Somewhere in my travels, I landed on a survey from the Pew Research Center where they surveyed residents of 17 advanced countries to try and ascertain what folks say gives them satisfaction and makes their lives meaningful (click here.) The Pew surveyors were also interested in seeing how folks in different countries either resembled or differed in values shared. Here is a summary of all their findings from across the 17 countries:

The one area that the U.S. differed most from the other 16 countries had to do with how we responded with regards to Spirituality/faith/religion. Survey said:

Note that while 15% of U.S. respondents cited Spirituality/Religion in their responses, the other 16 countries tended not to do so at all. On the overall survey results above, only Pets were rated lower than Spirituality/Religion. Obviously, Religion is a comparatively bigger deal in the U.S. as the second closest country to us was New Zealand at 5%. Why did all this surprise me a little? And it was not because we rated Religion so highly, but that everyone else rated it so low.

And since we’re talking Sunday religious matters here, I could make a case that the following is a religious tune as in saving your soul man! Great SNL performance here with Garrett’s intro, Belushi singing (and hand standing), Akyroyd dancing and Steve Cropper on guitar. Play it Steve!

Football on at Buzzy’s today. Hopefully, wins for both the Commanders and Ravens. The pessimist in me says that one of them will blow it. Thus, no betting for Bonzo today.
