Something else on tap for this Saturday (in addition to the Buzzy Planet Alignment Party) is the Appraiser Fair at St. Clements Island Museum:
It reminds me of the T-V show Antiques Roadshow. I don’t know if it is a sign of aging that things considered “antiquey” (just made that word up) interest you or what, but on more nights than I care to admit, Pam and I find ourselves watching episodes of PBS’ “Antiques Roadshow.”
I enjoy seeing the different items that folks bring in to have evaluated. As the appraiser goes through and discusses the history and background of the item, I’ll take a shot at guessing the value and find that I am usually way too low. Also, it is always fun to see the person’s reaction when told the value of their item (click here for a good example of this dynamic and the nice old guy’s reaction “What the heck do I do with it now?)
The Antiques Roadshow folks tend not to show folks who are disappointed or upset when they learn that their item is not that highly valued. However, check out this video and wait for the this old boy’s reaction when he hears it (see blog title above.).
