With the NFL on break and MLB opening day not until the end of March, my sports attention this time of year turns to college basketball in general and the University of Maryland in particular.
Ranked #15 nationally, the Terps are currently one of the hottest teams in college ball and will play a big game this coming Wednesday against #10 Michigan State. Got that to look forward to! Plus March madness is only a week away.
I’m going out on a limb here by predicting that for the first time in many years Maryland and Duke will be paired in the NCAA’s March Madness Tournament. Duke and Maryland have not been paired in the same regional since Maryland left the ACC in 2014. Anti-Duke conspiricists like myself, say that this is because Duke has pulled some strings thru the years to ensure that they are not scheduled to play opposite Maryland in tourney bracket selections.
However, I am saying that this will go down this year because Maryland’s star player Derrick Queen and Duke’s bad ass Cooper Flag played high school ball together on the same team Montverde Academy in Florida. That’s a game and matchup worth seeing no matter how much Duke would object to it. You heard it here first – Maryland-Duke in Round 2 of the East Regional. (I’m lying only a little here, because bracketologist Joe Lunardi has also been saying that it’s a possibility (click here.)
Nice little b’ball rap tune here for you with some great lyrics (e.g. @ 1:29 “God takes care of old people and fools, while the devil takes care of all the rules.”) Stay for Stephen Stills (@ 2:20) yes, THAT Stephen Stills:
