Falsetto Tunes

The other day when this song played on the radio in Buzzy’s Country Store, I cranked it up because I like it. (I know it’s only rock and roll but….)

As the tune played and folks started nodding their heads to it, someone noted “Hey, this song is a little too gay for Buzzy’s isn’t it?!” I explained to my would-be musical critic that any falsetto-based tune will always get my attention.

The exchange made me think about other great falsetto tunes and led me to this ranking of the top 17 (click here.) (Not sure how nor why they arrived at ranking 17, but it is a pretty good list even if it doesn’t have “Sad Eyes” nor anything by Lou Christie on it.)

Note that the videos accompanying No. 6 on the list “I’m Not the Only One” and No. 11 “Blue Orchid” are also worth checking out. Another tune on the list, at No. 10, is also my favorite Beach Boys’ song “Don’t Worry Baby.” There was this explanation of its origins.

I’ll conclude with another of my favorite classic falsetto tunes and it is one from Clarence “Frogman” Henry. Wait for his falsetto @ 1:00; but I gotta tell you that it’s hard to top his Frogman voice (1:35.)

Bob Mann birthday today so drop in Buzzy’s later to wish him a good one. Got some pizza’s and a drink or two to help celebrate his day.
