Pat and Gene

Speaking of Pier 450’s Mind>>>Blown Speaker Series (yesterday’s Buzzyblog post), I am sorry that I was unable to attend my buddy Pat Woodburn’s presentation there last week on the County’s history of Moonshining and Rum Running (click here and scroll down to catch some of what Pat had to say.) Everyone I have talked to who attended commented on how much they enjoyed Pat’s talk.

Then with the passing of Gene Hackman the other day, it made me stop and think “Didn’t he do a classic scene in some movie where he confronted some good old boys about bootlegging and moonshining?”

Well, it took me awhile to track it down, but I finally found it in the movie “Mississippi Burning.” Here is how it went down. (The title sums it up perfectly.)

Music-wise I searched for some music/movie videos featuring him and found this listing of 5 scenes (click here.) They were all good, but my favorite music-related scene has him here with Sigourney in Heart Breakers. Note that she was pretending to be a Russian and had gotten called up onstage to do a famous Russian folk song that she had no clue on how to sing. Hence, she rolled into this instead.
