Back home Monday, I was mucking around the internet corridors catching up on things when the followed popped up on my FB Memory page:
Having just completed our cruise to Curacao and back with Jimmy/Mary Lou and several other couples last week, at first glance I wasn’t with the program and thought that Jimmy’s note was a recent post.
But then, once I had cleaned my glasses, I saw the “On this day 3 years ago” description.
Whereas last week’s trip went off without a hitch, that 2022 trip Jimmy references was the one where our flight to Fort Lauderdale was canceled the morning we were set to leave. (Pam had booked the trip such that we would fly down the day before we would actually board the ship to start cruising.)
That morning we were to leave, I had just taken our suitcases downstairs when I heard Pam begin yelling upstairs “Holy hell, they just canceled our flight!” (Note, full disclosure, those were not her exact words; I just gave you the PG version of what she actually said.)
Having a dozen or so co- travelers in the mix, the next hour was a somewhat chaotic one as Pam juggled a flurry of calls back and forth discussing what to do. Some folks ended by booking a flight out of Reagan Airport. Cathy and Bobby Wright drove all the way to Ft. Lauderdale while the rest of us drove to Norfolk to catch an early-morning-next-day-flight from there.
Long story short, we all made it in time for the ship’s departure. (For the extended version of this story, stop in the Store sometime and over a drink, I will tell you “the rest of the story.” (Tip of the hat to Mr. Paul Harvey!)
Speaking of memories, Eric may have had the best tune ever on that subject. “Funny how a melody sounds like a memory. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa…”
