Historic St. Mary’s City

Speaking of You Tube video’s (previous post) check out these three videos from Historic St. Mary’s City on their Brick Chapel:

Here are the three links:

Opening ceremony – April 12 Brick Chapel Re-Opening

Part One – The Story of St Mary’s Chapel: The Synthesis (Part One)

Part Two – The Story of St Mary’s Chapel (Part Two)

HSMC also has a number of great events (click here) planned for July so mark your calendars and check some of them out.

For example, on 19 July you can sail around the St. Mary’s River on The Dove. After doing so you will be able to rightfully claim “I sailed in on The Dove.”

The Yacht Rock channel played this tune Sailing the other day as I was stocking the Buzzy’s Country Store beer case. My first thought was “Too bad they overplayed the hell outta this back in the day because I got so tired of hearing it that ultimately I didn’t much care for it.” (Conversely, I never tire of hearing “Ride Like the Wind.”)

However, as I continued to schlepp the 10 ounce Budweisers into the cooler, I caught myself humming along to the song’s refrain (1:28 below) and actually thinking to myself “What a great song this is.” Granted, it may have something to do with my getting to and becoming a certified old fart. But everything mellows the older you get right?

Yet, even with that caveat, if forced to choose, I still prefer Ride Like the Wind more so than I do Sailing. (I think the lyric “Never was the kind to do as I was told” was the tiebreaker.)

Found this good interview with Christopher from Howard. (Note that later in the show, Howard reunited Christopher with the Al guy who inspired the song, but I couldn’t find that exchange.)
