Tomorrow’s Buzzy Podcast will feature my Cousins Lorraine Teefey and Joe White. Today then, I will pass along a little family history that will provide you with some background info as you view the video tomorrow.
Our Grandparents Ms. Hattie and Clarence Ridgell had the 9 children shown here. (There were 5 others, 3 of whom died at childbirth and two who died very young.)
Lorraine’s Dad Lester is seen on the far left top row; Joe’s Mom Yvonne is in the center of the top row.
Lester married Grace Bradburn and they had a daughter Lorraine. Yvonne married Paul White and they had 2 children Joe and Leona Jane. Lorraine is seen top left in the following photo and Joe top right. Continuing a numeric progression, Manny married Mary and they had three children – John, Charles and Marianne. My folks Buzzy and Jean had 4 kids. (This photo was taken at Ms. Hattie’s and Granddaddy’s 50th Wedding Anniversary party. Grandchild Number 10 would be my younger sister Lila who is not in this photo.)
Lila however is in this photo posing in front of Lorraine’s parents Grace and Lester:
Tune in tomorrow to catch Lorraine and Joe talking about these and other topics. Note – you can catch the Buzzy Podcasts either here on the Buzzyblog or go to the Buzzy’s Country Store Facebook page. A third option is on the YouTube site where all of the Buzzy Podcasts appear together. Just type in Buzzy Podcast in the search block.
Two family songs spring immediately to my mind, but I am not wild about either of them.
The Sister Sledge “We Are Family” is forever ruined for me due to its association with the 79 Pittsburgh Pirates beating the Orioles (click here.) With the recent passing of Dave Parker, I heard references to that tune and it just made me depressed all over again. Nothing worse than Deja Vu Depression.
As for Sly’s “Family Affair” music-wise I like it alot but lyric-wise he’s a little too much on the bad/sad side of the coin for me. Plus, Sly is so hoarse that he sounds like even he is depressed about his family.
So instead of either of those two, check out this family tune from Rhett Walker that is a little bit more positive and upbeat. (Question for you, with Brian Wilson passing a couple days after him, does it seem like Sly did not get the amount of attention and recognition that he should have? Proof that one child you’d just love to burn?)
