In yesterday’s Buzzy Podcast featuring Lorraine and Joe, I mentioned how Buzzy would frequently provide Mrs. Catherine Bean with items for her weekly Enterprise column “Down County News.” Here are two examples of that.

This first one, I am fairly certainly that Buzzy was responsible for just about all of the items Mrs. Bean includes here. Note that he even managed to plug an upcoming softball game between his Buzzy’s Country Store Gang and the Old Fellows of Ridge.

This second sample likewise has Buzzy’s fingerprints on the items that I have hilighted.

As for the mention of Chuck Mettam’s bachelor party having been held at “the Country Store in Scotland” I am fairly certain that Buzzy initially submitted it stating “at Buzzy’s Country Store.” My guess is that perhaps the Enterprise, or even Mrs. Bean, edited “Buzzy’s” out because they didn’t want these columns being used to advertise businesses. (Not real sure if that was or wasn’t the case however, because in other Down County News columns, Buzzy’s per se is usually mentioned.)

Another followup to yesterday’s Podcast came about after I made the comment in the video about Buzzy providing Mrs. Bean a Down County News item discussing Cotton Ridgell spending the weekend with his friend Shorty Miller. That prompted Shirley and Joe to have the following nice exchange on the Buzzy Facebook page:

I like that “Memories are wonderful!” Agree with, and thank you Shirley and Joe!

Musically, sounding an awful lot like Bob, voice and lyric-wise, the line that caught my ear in this tune is sung at the 1:25 mark: “Yeah, but it’s your American right to throw your vote away.” And before any of you get your knickers in a twist, note that the tune was recorded 20 some years ago. I’m thinking maybe more Ralph Nadery than anything currently. However, that’s just a guess.
