Orioles Magic Not Dead Yet

Just yesterday Pat Guy and I were lamenting the Orioles and their current sorry state. I commented to Pat “Remember Orioles Magic? We sure have not seen any of that lately have we?”

And then after an extended rain delay, last night’s game appeared to be another one of those frustrating losses that they have had a lot of this season. Orioles starting pitcher Trevor Rodgers had pitched a great game. However, the Mariners took the lead in the 7th (6:50 mark in video below) and having seen this movie too many times previously, I started to turn it off.

However, as I hit the bathroom and then stumbled towards the bed fumbling with the remote to turn off the game, Mountcastle hit one out (7:30 mark) to lead off the inning. “Ok,” I thought, “I’ll stay with it a little longer.” Glad that I did so because the O’s scored 2 more runs to re-take the lead with Jermiah Jackson hitting a little league home run. (See what I mean at the 8:45 mark.)

When the Mariners tied it up in the top of the 9th, again I started to turn it off and get some shut eye. However, my Ridge-boy logic went “Hell, I have stayed up this long, why not at least watch the bottom of the 9th.”

Well, go to the 10:30 mark in the video and hear Jim Palmer urge Jackson Holliday to “Just hit a a double and get this over with.” I had just began to mutter “Yeah right Jim….” Jackson proceeded to do just that for a walk off win! Go to war Miss Agnes! For one of the few times this very long and lousy season, the Orioles did it!

When Jeremiah Jackson scored his go ahead run in that 7thn inning, the announcer made the comment “Capt Jack will get you by tonight” (9:00.) The announcer proved to be prophetic as two innings later it was Jackson Holliday who “doubled down” on that – literally! Billy knows the drill:

The Orioles have a killer schedule facing them the rest of August. However, for this one brief moment, it is a good feeling knowing that at least a tad of the old Orioles Magic is still around (even if it is too little a little too late.) Then again, this Elvis Costello “Mystery Dance” line has been running thru my mind alot lately “Don’t bury me cause I’m not dead yet.” (Elvis is playing in D.C. at the Warner in September.)

Get away game for them today at 1:05. Will have it on the Buzzy Big Screen, so drop in to see if the Orioles Magic can continue.
