Reality T-V Shows

Years ago I suggested to Buzzy that he watch the TV show Cheers. He asked me what it was about and I told him “A guy with a bar with a bunch of characters hanging out there.” His response was “I don’t need to watch that. I got that in here every day and night.”

I kind of feel the same way about reality TV shows. I don’t need to watch them to get my fill of “reality” because I can do that just from talking to and with my folks who drop into Buzzy’s.

That said, Undercover Boss is a reality TV show that I will check out. It involves the owner/CEO/president of a company disguising himself to spend time working alongside some of his company’s frontline employees.

Check out this scene where the head of Kendall-Jackson is going undercover and acting as a trainee with Rene, a driver who has a “straight forward” approach to his job:

I was not able to find a video showing the boss confronting Rene at the end of the show, but I remember that he did not fire Rene. Instead, the boss informed Rene that they were sending him to customer service training and taking him off the road and reassigning him to the warehouse. (Note this show aired in 2012. I spent some time noodling around to see how all this worked but couldn’t come up with any additional info. However, I did find this good discussion of Undercover Boss in general and this episode specifically (click here. The narrator talks directly about the boss’s exchange with Rene at the 4:00 mark in the video.)

As for jokes about reality T-V shows there was this one:

Since it is a Twofer Tuesday, here then is a second reality TV show video clip for you:

The Buzzyblog tries to stay apolitical; but this was too funny not to pass along. (I do wonder however, whatever happened to that bigger/better health care plan?)

Good Depeche Mode tune/video here from the movie Atomic Blonde. While not giving away any of the plot, you can pretty much catch the gist of the entire two hour movie by just watching this 4 minute video.
