Weekend Events – South County Has It Going on!

South County has quite a variety of events scheduled for this weekend beginning Saturday with The American Legion’s Car/Motorcycle Show, Bull Roast, and Live Music Extravaganza:

Meanwhile, just down the road, the Confederate Memorial Park and Point Lookout Descendants folks are hosting their Memorial Service event:

Sunday brings a double dose of Christian-sponsored events. Beginning @ 11:30, the Knights of Columbus have their monthly Chicken Dinner at the KoC Hall:

Up the road from there at the Cardinal Gibbons Memorial Park, The Bread of Life Center for Peace is sponsoring a Catholic Family Festival. (NOTE – this event has been canceled due to the ugly weather forecast. See email below.)

Add in Pier-450’s Jazz Brunch on Sunday and Historic St. Mary’s City’s Dove tours on Saturday, and you can see we have it going on in South County!

I say we because as you are aware, Buzzy’s Country Store always has it going on. That said, I am reminded of a mother and her pre-teen daughter visiting Buzzy’s awhile back. As they came into the store, the mom said to her daughter “Now look honey, this is a real country Store!” Unimpressed, the daughter responded with “Mom, this place is awful. It even smells bad. Can we just leave?!” The Mom, appearing to be semi-embarrassed, said to me as she approached the counter “I’m sorry. She’s never been in a country store before.” I smiled and played it off with “Well, I understand because Buzzy’s doesn’t really cater to kids.” However, what I really wanted to say to the mom was “If she feels that way, then take her snotty little ass and get out of here.”

With Halloween around the bend I searched for a horror movie to watch and ended up re-watching the movie Get Out the other night. It was as creepy and scary as it was the first time I saw it.

Given that I had not paid much attention to the Get Out soundtrack my first time viewing it, I did notice this time around how the opening credits contained three very different songs. The first tune (00:50) is a little tease in that it starts off upbeat and fun but shifts suddenly into something more sinister and mysterious. The second tune (1:28) is sung in Swahili and contains the verse “Something bad is coming. Run away.” But my favorite of the three tunes begins at the 2:36 mark in this video. To hear that tune in its entirety (click here.)

P.S. If you are looking to do something fun this Friday evening, Brian at the Green Door has a little Queen of Hearts action for you with perhaps a big payout awaiting you. So get out and get your ticket for a shot at winning it!

P.S. P.S. I found my 2017 Buzzyblog post written after I had talked Pam into going to see “Get Out.” To this day, she still won’t let me take her to a movie without first knowing what it is about.

P.S. 3 – Just checked my email to find this cancellation notice:
