Have you ever had that experience where you are attending an event and a very loud and obnoxious person is also present and he is ruining it for you and everyone else there? Eventually however, the very obnoxious person leaves and suddenly things are better (at least for awhile anyway.)
Well, that is the case now as most of us NFL fans outside of Missouri feel about Patrick Mahomes and his KC Chiefs having been eliminated from playoff contention. Suddenly, the AFC is wide open and for the first time since 2018 the AFC Championship will be played in a stadium other than Arrowhead.
For the last 10 years, Mahomes and his Chiefs have dominated the AFC specifically and the NFL in general. They have been to three consecutive Super Bowls, something only 3 other teams in NFL history have ever done: New England, Miami and Buffalo who holds the record by having been to 4 straight Super Bowls in their prime (click here.)
Mahomes has been the primary reason as he has appeared in the playoffs each of the seven seasons he has played since he became their starting QB in 2018. He has appeared in 21 playoff games where he has a record of 17-4. He has played in five Super Bowls and won 3 of them losing only to Tampa Bay in 2021 and last year to the Eagles. (Mentioning the Eagles, Buzzy’s Country Store will have the Commanders/Eagles’ game on tomorrow starting at 5 pm. We even have a little party scheduled to go along with it!
Back to the end of the Chiefs’ exceptional 10 year run, George Harrison came to mind. Although he had several great tunes post-Beatles including My Sweet Lord, What Is Life, Mind Set on You etc. (click here) I always kind of liked this one even though it is a little slow and a tad depressing music-wise. I find myself thinking of it whenever something (or even someone) comes to an end:
