Today marks my 75th year in this Country Store of Life and as birthdays go this one is a biggie for me. Why that is so, I blame Dr. Ezkiel Emanuel. He wrote an article several years back that resonated with me at the time when I was in my mid-60’s. I remember reading it and thinking “Wow, this makes perfect sense to me. I’ll have to think more seriously about this as I get closer to 75.”
Well, as Willie and Joe Chambers once wrote and sang “Time has come today.”
However, a big thank you to my friend Doug Ford who put a good spin on it in this birthday card he gave me the other day:
My daughter Reagan gave me this nice card:
I would play “Time Has Come Today ” but it sounds a little too ominous. How about something a tad more wishful as in “You gotta have faith” which was the Number 1 tune in 1988. Then again George punched outta here at the young age of 47 so maybe faith alone ain’t the answer to a long life.
And speaking of life expectancy, for a male like me born in 1951 it used to be 65.4 years (click here.) Using that metric, I have been on borrowed time for quite awhile now. As is, I really am old enough to die. But then again aren’t we all – regardless of actual age?
Then there was this little comparison of a couple of Octogenarians:
Using those 3 aging guidelines of sex, drugs and rock & roll, I will quote Meatloaf by saying that two outta three ain’t bad. (I will leave it to you to figure which two of the 3 I am well versed in.)
