While attending Bard College in upper State New York, he met Donald Fagan to form what would become Steely Dan. Some R&R trivia for you, one of their early bands was named Leather Canary which included fellow Bard student Chevy Chase as their drummer. In the video below at the :27 mark, that sure looks a lot like Chevy doesn’t it?
Here then is my favorite Steely tune and please, no psychoanalysis as to why I like it so much. Just because it involves some old dude trying to seduce a much younger 19 year old lady, rest assured that it has nothing to do with me. (What’s the dog-chasing-a-car joke: wouldn’t know what to do with it even if he could catch it? That’s me!)
The song’s summation of how “the Cuervo Gold and fine Colombian make tonight a wonderful dream” leaves you to wonder if he was using those drugs to get his young flame drunk/high enough for him to proceed with her, or if that was what he had to resort to in order to get thru and be done with his infatuation for her. Such are the mysteries in life that I ponder. “Say it again….”
