I read a Washington Post article on the winner of the National Spelling Bee (click here.) The last word he spelled to win the competition was bromocriptine. It means kind of what you would expect from a word that begins with “Bromo.”
In turn, it made me think of Baltimore and Orioles Park at Camden Yards. Why? Read on.
As Brady and I exited the parking garage in Baltimore a few weeks back heading to Camden Yards, he pointed out the Bromo Tower directly ahead of us.
At one time/for a spell, the Bromo Tower was visible from Camden Yards. I found this photo showing how the Bromo Tower, along with the much of downtown B’more, could initially be seen from the ball park:
But then shit happened. Here is a current look at Camden Yards with the hotel buggering up the view.
But back to the spelling competition. It was won by Shrey Prikh who defeated Ishaan Gupta in Round 18 of the competition.
Runners up in the competition were as follows:
See a little pattern here among the top finalists? How about this Ridge boy theory for you to consider: maybe because they had to learn how to correctly spell their names, that was good training for them to eventually go on and become such good spellers if all words! To quote my friend Brian Barnhill “Goodness Gracious Me!”
Which brings me to this classic sketch from BBC’s Goodness Gracious Me.
Song-wise, let’s go with the Academy Award winner in 2008 for Best Song:
Jai Ho translates as “Let there be victory” or “Hail Victory.” Congrats to Shrey on his victory!
