I have not ranted here on the Buzzyblog in some time, so today, hold my beer while I do some mild bitching.
This mini-rant involves gaining access to and/or logging into your online accounts. There is even a term for what I am about to complain about – it is dubbed Password Fatigue. (Note – I had a more Ridge-boy based description of it as being “Password Bullshit” but “Fatigue” works too if that is the more polite way of describing it.)
It is bad enough that you have to putz around entering long-ass passwords containing an upper and lower case letter, a number, a special character and your blood type (OK that’s not yet a requirement but don’t rule it out in the future.)
However, they are now making you check off that you are not a robot and then asking you to decipher some silly captcha thingy that is sometimes tough to decipher.
Quick aside for you – do you know what CAPTCHA actually stands for?
And to think that it took four people to come up with that name!
After doing all that malarkey to log into your account, the powers-that-be then send a code via your phone or email for you to enter. This is part of what they call their two step verification process.
OK, maybe I doth protest too much about what is basically a rather minor inconvenience. I concede that it only takes a minute to do the password shuffle and perhaps it is all worth it to protect you in the long run blah, blah blah. Still it seems a little too complicated.
Suggestion – what’s wrong with just using facial recognition for any and all access? My bank allows it and so far it has worked well for me. (Hate to jinx myself like that though. Wonder how soon before it goes sideways?). Phones use facial recognition. So why make us fart around negotiating all the above hoops and hurdles?
Here is good but seldom heard rant tune from Mick and the boys discussing toxic relationships. I have had a couple of those too and believe me, I’d rather deal with pesky passwords than with toxic people.
No passwords needed to access Buzzy’s so come as you are. But then again, if you are not 21 and want to buy booze, that may be a different conversation. I assure you though, it is only a one-step verification.
