Today’s Twofer Tuesday also coincides with it being Election Tuesday. Here is a good meme depicting the futility of trying to argue/discuss politics:
That is why I have the following policy posted in Buzzy’s Country Store.
As for how much it is followed however, someone once told me “J. Scott, as long as you’re there, they don’t talk politics, but once you leave, it gets deep quick.”
Full disclosure, I admit to feeling just a little twinge of regret that I had to do this because traditionally old time country stores have been places where one can talk a little politics and exchange points of view on the issues of the day. Throwing in the consumption of an alcoholic beverage or two can add a comical dimension to these lively discussions. However, that influence can also make things get messy. When the joking around hits a little too close to home, folks can and do get angry. And nothing good ever comes out of anger.
So today, if you haven’t already done so, go vote and do your civic duty. If you are up for a cold brew to get you primed for the results later tonight, Buzzy’s has one for you. Show me your “I voted sticker” and I will buy you your first one.
Stephen Stills figured prominently in the Laurel Canyon documentary that I watched last week and then he came up again yesterday. I saw a reel on the Monkees where it was noted that Peter Tork was chosen over Stephen Stiils after they and 400 other wannabe actors and musicians auditioned to be in the made-for-TV group.
My favorite Stills tune is his post-divorce-sail-away Southern Cross. However, since I am talking political stuff today, this one from Stephen’s Buffalo Springfield time is a close second. It has some great lyrics, but his “Battlelines are being drawn. Nobody’s right, if everybody’s wrong” takes the prize.
Too, it brings up a very select category of songs: those whose title is not mentioned in the lyrics. Google it and you may be surprised at some other well known tunes that are in this category – Bohemian Rhapsody for one.
