Someone emailed asking me what happened to the previous flagpole that we installed in 2009. Short answer is that it blew over in a wind storm last fall.
The backstory is that Mother Nature may have done me a favor and solved a potential problem for me. Here’s the long answer:
Last summer a representative of the Sons of Confederate Veterans contacted me and asked if they could fly their flag on my Buzzy pole on a Saturday in October when they were to host a big event at the Confederate Memorial. I agreed and then tried contacting some of the beer distributors about making a “Welcome Sons of Confederate Veterans” sign for them. Citing political correctness considerations, the beer distributors declined to make the welcome signs.
Enter Mother Nature. A couple days before the event, while I was relaxing on a cruise ship somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico, I received a text message from Jenny informing me that a wind storm had come thru the area and had knocked over our flag pole. Some “problems” solve themselves.
