Buzzy and Elvis

At lunch the other day, one of the topics of conversation involved  how the Post Office is losing money and laying off people.  I noted that I’d heard somewhere that the Postal folks were talking about issuing stamps that would feature on them people who aren’t dead.  My buddy Dave Carlson got me good when he noted “I don’t know about that, Elvis is on a stamp.”  I said “Yeah, but he’s dead.”  
To which Dave laughed and said “Noooooooo!”  

Buzzy and I visited Graceland in 2005 on what would be our last tour/vacation together.  We went on a NARFE sponsored trip by bus to Nashville, Memphis, Branson and Asheville.     As nice as the Biltmore Mansion  was at Asheville, Buzzy and I both concluded that we liked Graceland  a little more.  Country boys you know.

He May Not be Dead But He Has a Nice Gravesite

 Favorite Elvis tune has always been Kentucky Rain. There’s a line in it that talks about an old guy sitting on a bench in front of a general store. Had to smile when I went looking for a video of the song and found it showing (at the 1:45 mark) a shot of the Rabbit Hash General Store that I’ve discussed before in several posts (click here for most recent one.) Like to think that somewhere Buzzy and Elvis are smiling at that Country Store coincidence.  (Additional coincidence – Kentucky Rain was written by Eddie Rabbitt.)
