Field of Dreams of Money

From DJGallo

While we continue to hold out hopes that the Orioles and maybe even the Nationals can still make it to the playoffs, the Houston Astro’s are officially baseball’s worst team. As noted to the left, they will not be playing in any post-season playoff games.

But the news is not all bad for the Astros.  While they are the worst team on the field, they are also baseball’s most profitable and will take in close to $100 million this year according to this Forbes article (click here)  Primary reason for the Astros’ financial success is low labor costs as their entire team payroll is currently “only” $13 million.  For comparison purposes, the article notes that 64 major league ball players make over $13M individually, 9 of whom are on the New York Yankees.  (Yankees’ 2013 team salary was over $228M.)  There’s a lesson in here somewhere.
