Can You Name Two Cities in Mississippi?

The other day I relayed an Alabama joke that a couple of folks have “questioned” me about albeit in a friendly sort of way.  Guess that I should have qualified it some because I’ve really got nothing against Alabama and didn’t mean to offend anyone from there.  I admit though that the joke was probably not fair since I’ve heard variations of it for many Southern states.  In fact, a case could be made that every southern state’s motto is “Thank God for Mississippi or we’d be ranked last in everything.”

So, if anyone should be offended, it should be Mississippians.  (Only person I know from the Magnolia State is Al Watson and he doesn’t seem to care.)  Here’s another variation on the Mississippi state motto – “Come and feel better about your state.”  And so it goes.

But back to Bama, a very cool thing that I just learned from the ole Google machine is that Alabama’s official state beverage is Conecuh Ridge Whiskey.  Alabama is the only state that has an alcoholic beverage as its state drink (click here.)  Mississippi and Maryland have milk as their state beverages.  Now that’s lame.  Maybe Maryland is not that different from Mississippi after all.   Maybe the joke should be – thank God for Maryland………..

Buzzy Christmas Party tonite.  Thank God for that!
