Conversation at Buzzy’s Country Store Saturday involved naming the first concert that you ever attended. I had to think about my answer but am glad I did so because I realized that my first concert experience was actually a pretty awesome one.
Doug Courtney and I were living in Clearwater, Florida the summer of 69 when we saw advertised the First Atlanta Pop Festival being held over the 4th of July weekend. We drove up to Atlanta and had two drunken days of music and fun listening to acts such as Janis, Creedence, Zeppelin, Johnny Rivers, Joe Cocker, CTA, Grand Funk etc..
At some point in the concert an announcer mentioned an upcoming festival to be held in New York at someplace called Woodstock. As he mentioned the names of acts that would be appearing there, all of the folks around us started talking about going. I remember telling Doug, that if we made it back to Maryland we should plan on going too.
Thanks to the wonders of the www, I was able to latch onto the following info about the concert that we attended.

(Check out Janis at the 5:20 mark. Doug and I were up close to the stage with a similar vantage point of her performing. This is how I remember Janis in concert. Too bad there was no sound recording of it.)
