Groundhog Day always causes me to think of my visitor to Buzzy’s Country Store a couple years ago who told me how he once spent the night before Groundhog Day in the Punxsutawney Jail. He told me that he had been incarcerated for being drunk and unruly and once jailed, he slept on a cement slab. He awoke early the next morning very hungover, very sore and very dry mouth thirsty.
In the cell across from him he saw Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil nestled very comfortably on a large cushion in a pet carrier with bowls of food and water before him. He noted that it all served as an “Aha! Moment” for him as he thought to himself “How much lower can I go if the damn groundhog here is being treated better than I am?” He said it was then and there that he decided to change his ways.
