Working 37 years for DoD I encountered more acronyms that I would ever need or want to know in a lifetime. However, I recently encountered two new ones that made me stop and think about each of them for a bit.
Listening to a business report I heard the know-it-all announcer explain that the recent Stock Market fluctuations were mostly due to the FANGs moving around.. He went on to discuss tech stocks so I correctly deduced that FANG stood for Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google stocks. (Google is now owned by Alphabet so maybe the more correct term is FANA,)
Couple days later I heard a shrink on the radio talk about being lonely during the holidays. She noted that holidays are dangerous times for folks in recovery from some sort of addiction. She mentioned HALT as the primary reasons that recovering addicts will be tempted to relapse during times of Hunger, Anger, Loneliness and Tiredness.
Here is probably the most famous “acronym” song of all time but I’m betting you won’t recognize it by its official title TSOP = The Sound of Philadelphia. It is by another acronym MFSB = Mother, Father, Sister, Brother. You’re probably saying “What?” But once you hear the songs’ beginning you will immediately know it as this T-V show’s theme song:
