Do the Right Thing – Give it to Spike!

Spike Lee directed and starred in Do the Right Thing and was nominated for the an Academy Award Best Picture of the year in 1989.  Do the Right Thing Spike ultimately lost out to Driving Miss Daisy, something that Spike is still not too happy about as he told Leslie Stahl in this interview (click here. Excerpt follows:)

And now 30 years later Spike is nominated for BlackKklansman which is based on a true story about a black guy joining the KKK.  However, Spike is going up against The Green Book a movie that ironically, is about a white dude driving a black guy around the South.

Here’s hoping that Spike finally gets his overdue Oscar tonight but if he doesn’t, also hope that Green Book isn’t the one to take it from him.

As for Best Song in a movie, most of the know-it-alls have Bradley and Gaga winning it for this appropriately titled and very slack song.  (Guess you can tell it’s not my favorite tune.)  My choice would be the Ballad of Buster Scruggs (click here.)
