Somewhere in my internet travels I found this video below talking about the lack of crab pickers on our Eastern Shore. The folks featured in the video discuss the H-2B Visa Program and how the process for obtaining visas has become more heavily regulated following President Trump’s America First Executive Order.
However, like so many things having to do with the Trumpster, he has muddled this up when he recently called for the expansion of the H-2B program. (My guess is that he probably saw how it was starting to negatively impact his resort business operations:)

Overall, the whole immigration mess is just one huge political clustermuck. Talk of “comprehensive immigration reform” is just that – talk. Big issues involving amnesty for those illegals already here and how best to handle and process asylum seekers, are too contentious and politically explosive to expect any compromised/sensible solution anytime soon.
Given that, why not pursue a more divide-and-conquer approach? The powers- that-be should be able to make something like this fairly simple H-2B Program run more smoothly. We’ve got jobs that immigrant laborers want to perform. Seems like we ought to be able to figure out how to make that a win-win instead of mucking around with it like monkeys trying to hump a football.
Here is another good article on the issue (click here.)
