Yes Someone South or What

Ok, here is another simple but not-so-easy-to-solve riddle for you.  I’ll even give you a little tip to assist you – read closely and watch the punctuation marks!

Someone’s mother has 4 sons.
North, East and West.
What is the name of the fourth son.
Can you guess?

First off, the correct answer, literally, to the riddle is “Yes” because you can guess all you want.  (Remember I said that this was the LITERAL answer.)  On the other hand, if you are a contrarian and either can’t or don’t feel like trying to solve the riddle, you could answer “No, I can’t solve it” and you would be correct there also.

As for guessing the correct name of the 4th son, South would appear to be the logical/correct answer.  But that’s too easy right?  And remember, I cautioned that punctuation matters matter.  The third line of the riddle reveals in a declarative statement that the boy’s name is What.  The period at the end of the sentence indicates that this is not a question but rather is a statement of fact.

OK, now that I’ve got you completely confused here is a curve ball answer: the boy’s name is provided in the first line of the riddle when it states that “SOMEONE’s Mom……”  Thus, his name is Someone.  For more info on this riddle (click here.)

Speaking of riddles, here is a nice little song with it’s video bordering somewhat on the trippy side of things.  Natalie received a Grammy Nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1997 but lost out to Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On.  No doubt in my mind which one of those two should have won that Grammy.
