I was taking my Mom to get her hair done and because we were a little early for the appointment I decided to ride through the trailer park on old Rt. 5 across from Millison’s Farm. (In addition to looking for a Guy Clock (previous post) I am also trying to locate a mobile home to replace the current one behind Buzzy’s Country Store.)
As we pulled into the trailer park, Mom asked me “Why are we doing this?” I replied “Because someone in the Store told me that there was a trailer for sale here.” Mom promptly began singing “Trailer for sale or rent” to which I added “Rooms to let 50 cents.” We then both continued singing the next couple of lines “No phone, no pool, no pets, I ain’t got no cigarettes. Ah, but 2 hours of pushing broom buys an 8 x 12 four bit room. I’m a man of means by no means – king of the road.” We even harmonized a bit on the “king of the road” portion.
We then laughed and commented about knowing the song’s lyrics that well. Mom followed up with “Isn’t that something? Here I can’t remember what day it is and yet I know the words to King of the Road.”
I pointed out to her “Well, just proves that you’re not losing it after all.” While she disagreed with me, I just smiled about the thought of driving thru a trailer park singing King of the Road with my Mom. Like that ever crossed my mind as something we would be doing. Do wish though that I had been able to recall the second verse and that we could have kept singing.
Guess you know what’s up next:
