Yesterday’s Buzzyblog post about SALT Waterfront Kitchen got me thinking about other such places we have here in St. Mary’s. The following is from the Visit St. Mary’s website:
Visit St. Mary’s then goes on to list 16 restaurants in the County where you can relax and enjoy some of the best the County has to offer waterfront/seafood-wise. (One sad footnote is that you will notice Kevin’s Corner Kafe is still appearing among the 16 listed. Unfortunately, Kevin’s is no longer in business. His Father’s place Thompson Seafood in Mechanicsville however, is still open and dealing as a carry out operation.)
I saw this discussion on the very good FB site Southern Maryland is Hungry pop up just the other day:
Jessica received 173 comments from folks offering up and suggesting their favorite places. And while I did not take the time to tally up the results, it did seem that the two Captains as in Leonard’s and Pat’s were mentioned quite a lot. The Foxy Fish also got a number of mentions. (If someone more energetic than I am wants to do the rankings of the 173 favorite places, lemme know your results and not only will I give you credit here on the Buzzyblog, but also I’ll have a cool one waiting for you at the Store when you drop in to collect.)
Regardless where you go to enjoy waterfront/seafood dining, it is nice that we have so many excellent options here not only in St. Mary’s County but also in our neighboring counties of Calvert and Charles. Any local restaurant that has managed to survive Covid and is still around I applaud and encourage you to support when making your dining out decisions. The Cracker Barrels and fast food folks are going to be around regardless. However, we need to support our small town, local efforts as much as we can.
As for ranking life’s guilty pleasures, I have restauranteuring ranked just behind listening to music. Buck 65 does a good job combining both of those “hobbies” in this tune of his:
