On Death and BS

Went to a funeral service yesterday evening that left me with some very mixed emotions. (Then again, that’s usually what happens when I attend these sort of events. But this one hit me a little more so than usual.)

On Thursday I visited with a friend who has Stage 4 Cirrhosis and, as Bob said, he is fixin’ to die. However, as bad as his health may be, my buddy still has his sense of humor. When I prepared to leave and said goodbye to him, he laughed and replied “I’ll see you again, if you go to hell.” As I looked at him trying to parse just what he meant, he laughed and said “Because, that’s where I’ll be,”

Just today then, I came upon a couple of items that seemed to have been sent my way given my varied thoughts about death. First up is something from the WaPo:

Harry Frankfurt died on 17 July at the age of 96. As the article mentions, he was a philosopher, academician, and author best known for his NY Times No. 1 best selling book as follows (click here:)

Then I saw this FB item about an obit that falls into the TMI file. (Obviously, James had some ‘splaining to do.)

Many of the comments addressed to his wife had to do with what an outstanding Christian James was. Go figure.

Finally, (pun intended) to leave you on a musical note, here is something that has been around awhile, but still makes me smile whenever I see it:

P.S. Guess that I should have mentioned and/or done something about Tony Bennett and his passing, but, as Mike Tomlin put it so eloquently:
