One Store – Two Brothers

Today’s Twofer Tuesday features a couple of brothers who ran an old time grocery store in Raleigh, North Carolina. The following photo and write up appeared on the “Olde Raleigh” Facebook Page.

Note that I contacted the North Carolina State Archives’ folks about express permission to reprint the above. They referred me to the Raleigh News and Observer (N&O) Newspaper who has copyrighted the photo. However, when I sought permission from the N&O to use the photo, I was directed to a research company that has a fee-for-service policy. The Buzzy in me wouldn’t let me continue investigating paying for something that was already available for all to see. However, note that I tell you all this just in case any of you ever want to reuse or pass along the above photo of brothers Plato and Kleber Sullivan; please don’t say you saw it here first on the Buzzyblog!

Musically, another “twofer” for you in that this tune was originally recorded as an instrumental and later became “Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me.” Author Duke Ellington originally wrote “Concerto For Cootie” in honor of his trumpeter Cootie Williams. Later, with some lyrics added, it became “Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me.” Here are the two versions, see what you think. Tough to top Ella.
