The best NFL weekend of football games starts tomorrow and runs thru Monday night as the Wild Card Playoff Round begins with six games. Given that the average time it takes to play an NFL game is 3 hours and 12 minutes, that means you can veg out for close to 20 hours the next three days doing nothing but watch football. Life is good.
I show you the following not as any inducement to gamble but because it does a nice job depicting the matchups and seeding positions. Note that the two Number 1 seeds have byes this weekend.
Another nice feature of the above schedule, is that it lists the games in the order they will be played. Cleveland/Texans kick off at 4:30 Saturday with KC/Miami later Saturday night. Sunday will have three games starting with the 1 p.m. Steelers/Bills game. Monday night will have Eagles/Bucs playing.
Buzzy’s Country Store will have these on the T-V for you with the exception of Saturday night when that game is being televised on Peacock. You will be hearing more about this when folks try to tune in the game Saturday and discover that they can’t watch it. For related story on this “great” i.e. stupid NFL decision (click here.)
As for the mention of doing some gambling, here are Draft Kings’ odds as of this early Friday morning. (I mention just when this is because the odds and spreads may change as we get closer to game times.)
The Sunday 1 o’clock Bills/Steelers game is the one I picked for the Buzzy Football pool in the Store. I did so because I plan to bet the over @ 35. Although some trends show that the under is the one to bet during playoff games, especially when weather could be a factor, I am adhering to that old gambling saying that it is better to be rooting for points than against points.* (I could extrapolate that to a life lesson for you that it is always better to be for something than it is to always be against something. No political pointing of fingers here, but you know whom I am talking about.)
Too, the Steelers getting 9.5 points means that I’m going to be betting on and rooting FOR them to at least cover. Drop into Buzzy’s Saturday or Sunday to enjoy the best football weekend of them all!
*P.S. Many’s the time I’ve lost money betting that saying. Another gambling saying that’s cost me money is to always bet home dogs especially during playoffs. That is at play here too this weekend with both Texas (+2) and Tampa (+3) entering their games as slight underdogs. As Marty would say “I’m tempted.”
Speaking of bad weather, it sounds like we’re in for another rainy night. Conway and Sam have become my new go-tos for this Tony Joe White song made famous by Brook Benton. (I have played and discussed this previously here on the Buzzyblog but it’s well worth a second, third, fourth etc. listen. If nothing else, pick it up at the 3:45 mark where they laugh and go back and forth with each other. I am fairly certain that it was all scripted, but it comes across as two good friends just joking around and having fun. See what you think.
