Oops – Sorry Mary – Wrong Assumption

Somone just pointed out to me that in my previous post, I have Mary’s Assumption and her Immaculate Conception mixed up. (I think that there is a joke in there somewhere, but right now I want to hurry up and correct my mis-assumption regarding Mary’s Feast Days. I don’t want her appearing to me to bust me for getting any of that wrong. However, if she wants to come to me and give me some advice on who to bet on in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, then I am good with that. Come on Mare, tell me who you got in your Final Four.)

For the record then, the major Mary feast days go as follows: Solemnity of Mary is celebrated on 1 January, the Annunciation on 25 March, her Assumption on 15 August and her Immaculate Conception on 8 December.

In my previous Buzzyblog post, I made the observation that Mary got assumed on the 8th and that poor John got shot. I guess what I should have said is that on the 8th Mary got… ok never mind. This does bring up the point that Gabriel appeared to announce to her that she was carrying God’s child. Did Mary consent to all that out-of-wedlock business when she was being immacualtely impregnated by the Big Guy? Just wondering.

Known as the Marian Feast Days, there are a bunch of other minor league Mary feast days (click here for a complete listing.) Obviously I have enough difficulty keeping track of her 4 biggies so I won’t even begin to discuss these lesser days.

However, I did note that while there are lots of “Our Ladys of Something or Other” on the list, Jackson Browne’s Our Lady of the Well did not make it. (How could he have written the line “It’s so far the other way my country’s gone” (1:00 mark) so long ago and still be so relevant? That would appear to be a very correct assumption wouldn’t you agree?
