One last Chicago-related post today and promise I’ll be back to the usual booze, b.s. and Buzzy stuff tomorrow. From Buddy’s to Buzzy’s let’s just say.
Last Friday, Brady and I had already logged in a very long day getting to Chicago, having Kenny Wiegman pick us up at Midway Airport and attending a Cubs game. After the ballgame, as we scanned around for places to grab dinner, we noticed that the Buddy Guy’s Legends Blues Club was located not too far from our hotel.
We hiked over and I am glad that we made our move when we did. We had no sooner sat down when the opening act Paolo Apuli began playing and did so for an hour.
The headline act Sugaray Rayford then performed and put on a great show that had folks up dancing and enjoying themselves. Sugaray played for a couple hours. Note – it was nearing midnight when we left the club, and after a very long day we did decide to Uber back to the hotel.
The MC introducing the acts gave a quick history of the blues and credited the Rolling Stones for starting a revival of respect and interest in the blues. He reported how the Stones had even visited the Buddy Guy’s club during one of their tours. Ironically enough I noted that today in rock music history, the Stones made their first appearance on England’s Rock, Steady, Go T-V show and performed Chuck’s classic “Come On.”
