Padres Two Glove Mishaps

Twofer Tuesday, so let’s look at a couple of Padres’ “Crazy Glove Incidents.”

Their first unusual glove incident happened in the opening game of the season.

The Padres second weird glove-related incident happened this past Sunday. Scroll thru the following game highlights video over to the 11:20 mark where you will see former Oriole Kyle Stowers …. (OK, it’s too crazy to describe, so just look for yourself and see if you think it was a double or a home run.)

Note that the Padres lost both of these games. Bottom line, sometimes Lady Luck ain’t no lady (and in the Padres’ case, neither is she a very nice one.)

That brings me back to the Daryl Hall and Bill Maher interview wherein they had some interesting takes when talking about Frank (click here and pick it up at the 10:00 mark.) Then listen to this from Frank:

As for the Orioles, despite going 12-11 following the All Star break, they are still in first place in the AL East and at 70 -49 remain tied with the Guardians and Dodgers for the best overall record(s) in baseball. The O’s have made it this far, despite having had a very tough post-All Star schedule, their longest road trip of the season and some very bad luck pitching-wise. (There’s that Lady Luck phenom again.)

However, they have 43 games left and their September schedule softens up some. With a little stability in their pitching, along with some sympathy and grace from that Lady, playing 500 ball the rest of the way will give them around 91-92 wins. (Note that Draft Kings’ projected over/under for them at seasons’ start was 90.5. Thus, they appear to be right where the smart folks thought they would be.)

Since it’s a Twofer, how bout another video? Check out Ernie Isley (2:30) killing it on lead guitar and even pretending to go a little Jimi on us at the 2:54 mark. For the record, Jimi did play with the Isley Brothers when he first started out (click here.) Thus, I’m not too sure just who was copying who here.*

*Think I probably should have said “who was copying whom” there. However, when it comes to the proper usage of whom, I side with the lady who wrote the book A World Without ‘Whom’: The Essential Guide to Language in the BuzzFeed Age. Her take is that we should get rid of and not worry about the correct usage of who vs. whom. In other words, she is saying that the bell should toll for whom. (Sorry, had to go a long ways just to work that in! Actually, I nicked it from here.)
