Moving from classic cars to the Fall Classic, baseball bubba’s are touting tonight’s World Series as a very historic showdown between the two best teams around – the Yankees and the Dodgers.
I heard the talking heads on the radio yesterday comparing it to famous face offs between the likes of Apollo Creed/Rocky Balboa, the Sharks and the Jets, and Shane vs. Wilson. (Ok, if you don’t get that last one click here. As you watch the video, be sure sure to check out how the dog appears to vamoose at the 2:05 mark, but then later re-appears back in the scene with the little boy under the table at the 3.00 mark. Leads me to wonder – were there two dogs in that fight?)
But in addition to this World Series featuring the two best teams in all of baseball, another reason to look forward to this Series is the appearance of the two biggest stars currently in the game – Ohtani and Judge. (Here is some inside baseball money talk you won’t care much about: there is an ongoing churn over Ohtani’s Dodger contract where he has deferred payment of most of it until the end of the current contract. Thus, in 2034, Ohtani could opt to play for one of the three MLB teams located in States with no state income tax – Texas, Florida and Nevada and avoid paying any state tax on that deferred payment. For a good discussion on all this (click here.)
Prediction-wise, since I did so well with my Royals-Padres pre-Series picks, I will say the Dodgers in six. Although I think the Yankees are the better overall team, for the life of me I just can’t root for ’em, much less pick ’em to win it all. Come on Ohtani, show us what you got.
Another example of fragile ego’s colliding crossed my mind involving a throw down between Howard Stern and Sam Kinison back in the day. It involved Bon Jovi too and Howard and Sam got into it so bad on the air one day, that Sam promised to come back the next day with Bon Jovi to meet with Howard and argue it all out.
Since I was looking forward to listening to that encounter, I called out from work that next day and stayed home to listen to it. Long story short, I wasted my leave on doing so because Sam never showed up on Howard’s show. Check out this video discussing it (click here.) (As for my taking leave to stay home and listen to all this malarkey, it just goes to prove that, yes, I am a very shallow guy.)
And speaking of Bon Jovi here he is on how to make a memory.
