Twofer Tuesday: Two Helmets/Two Mettams

Tom Blazer recently brought me the helmet that he was wearing the night he helped extinguish the Buzzy Fire in 1983. I have added Tom’s contribution to the Buzzy hatwear collection adjacent to Bob Mann’s flight helmet. My thanks to Tom for doubling the number of helmets now in the Buzzy helmet collection.

For more details and previous posts on the Buzzy fire (click here) and here. (This last post contains a photo of Tom, and his two buddies Rick Corcoran and Rusty Tarleton on the roof fighting the fire.)

Ironically, when I went back and looked at the first Buzzyblog post linked above, I did not realize that the two photos included in that post contained the Mettam brothers El-Chucko and younger Brother Will. Duncan Lepper and Will were shown repairing the Store roof the day after the fire, while Chuck and Pete Peterson looked on. (Photos were courtesy of Ned Pratt.)

Since it is a Twofer, how about two nightlife-related tunes? I have always liked this one from Alicia Bridges:

This Willie Nightlife tune provides a good contrast and choice between disco and country music. If sentenced to that deserted island with only x number of tunes, think I would have to have Alicia stashed in my tote bag and Willie left behind on the shelf at Buzzy’s with the helmets. Sorry Willie.

P.S. I received a text from Chuck’s daughter Melisa who informed me that he is fighting some very serious medical issues. Here is wishing him well and hoping for the best for him. Do not go gentle…..
