In Budapest when we had some free time one afternoon, Pam elected to get a facial, and I visited a museum named The House of Terror. (Don’t know what that says about how we choose to spend our free time, but as Muhammed Ali once said “There are different strokes for different folks.”
The House of Terror contains exhibits and displays of the persecution that Hungarians endured for several decades under the fascist and communist regimes.
Taking photos was not permitted in the museum, but I did find the following video that includes scenes of the various exhibits and displays in the museum.
Touring the museum is such that you end up in the building’s basement where the prison cells and torture rooms were once located. As the narrator notes at the end of his video, you find yourself leaving the building somewhat overwhelmed and very depressed by the experience. (I found myself thinking on my walk back to the hotel “Maybe I should have gotten a facial too!”)
As for feeling depressed and trying to rise above it, check out this upbeat tune and video. Contains some good advice about setting your bar low. (Coalesces nicely with my outlook that if you keep your expectations low, you will never be disappointed.) Stick with the video for the reveal (2:30) on how they filmed some of the earlier scenes. Not too shabby.
