On 15 October 1983 the Orioles beat the Phillies in Game 4 of the World Series. The following day they would beat the Phillies again and win the World Series. Catholic school math then, it has been 42 years since the Birds last appeared in a World Series. I will talk more about that 83 World Series in a minute, but first I want to direct your attention to one of the craziest of plays ever to have occurred in the history of MLB.
It went down in this past Monday night’s Brewers-Dodgers NLCS game when the Dodgers had the bases loaded with one out. Max Muncy (how’s that for a non-fictional baseball name?) hit what looked like a potential Grand Slam for the Dodgers, but things went a bit haywire as the following happened:

There were a lot of “firsts and only’s” in that game wouldn’t you say? Quite the contrast to the fact that 1983 would also be the Orioles’ last World Series appearance (to date.)
