Car/Music Talk

Caught Brad Pitt’s Academy Award nominated movie F1 last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good cast, great action scenes along with a great music soundtrack made it a fun movie to watch even if the plot was a little too predictable. It had me from this, the opening scene:

It reminded me of a recent car talk conversation in Buzzy’s Country Store where the guys were discussing “three on the tree” versus “four on the floor.” For you non-car buffs like me, they were referring to manual transmission shifters with the three speed shifter being located on the steering wheel column and the four speed, yeah you guessed it, situated on the floor.

As that conversation spun out (get it?) my mind wandered to a T-V show that I used to watch on VH1 many years ago titled “Four On The Floor.” It featured a panel of music critics discussing artists and songs. Maryland boy J.D. Considine was my main reason for watching because I knew him and his writing from his serving as the Baltimore Sun’s music critic. However, the more I watched the show, the more I found myself enjoying Amy Linden and her takes on the music scene. (Amy currently cohosts a podcast titled Immaletyoufinish. I found the following example of one of the Four On the Floor shows. It is worth viewing to see how they were prescient about Michael Jackson and his ultimate fate. Go to the 10:00 mark to hear J.D. talking about how Elvis became the king, while Michael Jackson, like Napolean, named himself the king. Got it. (The Part 2 Celebrity conversation (11:35) is worth checking out also.)

As for musical picks, Amy talks (21:45) about Jim Lauderdale so here he is:
