Since my Great Grandmother Susan Rebecca was a Hammett I’ve often wondered if somewhere in the family lineage Dashiell may be a relative. As described at the end of a recent article on private detectives in the Enterprise (click here) he was from St. Mary’s County. However, I recall hearing that he wasn’t too proud of his heritage and once he left the Mother County, he never returned. I’m fairly sure then that he would not have appreciated me calling him a County Boy. But hey Dashiell, you never really get away from St. Mary’s County, even when you do.
