Saw in the Enterprise last week where Stone’s Store has been sold to Mr. Brad Prizzi click here. Wish Brad well and hope he can make a go of it even if I do have some qualms about him re-naming an old country store something like the Race-N-In.
It did remind me however of a Washington Post article a few years back where Buzzy’s and Stone’s were discussed click here. Patsy’s daughter Emily Wheatley, who is mentioned in the article, has been in Buzzy’s several times. We’ve enjoyed reminiscing about what it was like to have grown up in a country store. (I think we are becoming a very select minority.)
Re-reading the article, two things hit me. Buzzy is quoted as saying something along the lines that he didn’t want to stick one of his children “with something like this.” I now read and smile that he said that. However, this was written at the beginning of 2006 before Buzzy started experiencing all kinds of medical issues. A few months later in 06 he would actually list the Store with a realtor, my brother-in-law Jerry Taylor. When he received an offer from a Korean dude for the Store, that’s when he called me and suggested that I buy it from him.
Second thing that hit me is sort of serendipitous: Myrtle Faunce turned 87 last month and believe me she is, as she states in the Post article when she was only 82, “still gettin it on.” If you see Myrtle, tell her to keep on gettin it on.
