Buzzy would instruct those of us working behind the store counter to always ask tourists, campers, fishermen at the end of tallying their purchases “Do you need ice?” The majority of the time, they would respond “Yes. I’m glad you reminded me.” Years later I learned that this was known as “suggestive selling” e.g. “Do you want fries with that?” “Would you like to include a salad?” “Can I interest you in our deserts?” Buzzy was doing it before it even had a name for it.
That said, this picture puts an entirely different spin on the phrase.
