John Wayne Raley was commenting the other night in Buzzy’s Country Store how much he missed playing pitch at the Store. (Pitch for those of you who don’t recognize it, is a card game.) Back in the day, the pitch games would go on for literally hours.
As much as John Wayne misses the pitch games, I do not for one simple reason: an argument, and often times, a fight would ultimately break out as the alcohol and drugs took full effect and the card players lost track of who was doing what. Arguments over who had low, who did not follow suit, who threw game to the bidder etc. would escalate to a loud level and problems would follow.
Thus, I was very relieved that the dice game Left, Center, Right (LCR) came along and replaced pitch as the past time at Buzzy’s. As stated in the description above, LCR’s beauty is that “The players make no decisions of any kind.” Perfect game for a Saturday night Buzzy crowd.
