Couple years ago at one of John Carbone’s parties, Gary Rue and his band performed the Van Morrison tune Brown Eyed Girl. As Gary sang the lyrics, I thought I detected a bit of weariness in his voice. During a band break, I asked him about being tired of BEG, and Gary told me “J.Scott, I hear that damn song in my sleep I’ve played it so much. But people want to hear it, so we keep playing it for them.”
I saw where “that song” has now been played 10 million times on American radio’s click here. The irony is, Van sounds a little like Gary in his regard for the song. Van claims that he has written 300 songs better than BEG. I’m betting that the following is one of Van’s top 300.
